Visiting Assistant Professor of Interdisciplinary Studies

The Honors College at the University of Central Arkansas has an opening for a visiting assistant professor of interdisciplinary studies. This position is a non-tenure track appointment, beginning August 15, 2009, and ending May 15, 2010. Salary is competitive.

A Ph.D. in library and information science is highly preferred. Strong candidates will have teaching experience in one or more allied fields in the natural sciences, humanities, or composition. ABDs scheduled to defend by August 1, 2009, may also be considered. Qualified candidates will have interest and preferably instructional experience in interdisciplinary studies or liberal arts. Duties and responsibilities are primarily instructional, and include teaching library and undergraduate research methods to honors scholars, team-teaching a writing-intensive freshman honors seminar, as well as teaching upper division, interdisciplinary honors seminars that are largely of one?s own design. Student-teacher ratios in these seminars range from 12-1 to 15-1. An active research agenda is expected.

The UCA Honors College has served as a model for numerous programs around the nation during its 26-year tenure and routinely places a high percentage of its graduates in top law, medical, and graduate schools. It has two honors residence halls with private rooms; an honors center with multipurpose spaces, offices, and seminar rooms; and a private endowment along with university support for an extensive grant program funding undergraduate research internships and study abroad. Course work in the specially designed, four-year curriculum culminates in a minor in honors interdisciplinary studies requiring a senior thesis project. The UCA Honors College is expected to enroll over 425 students in the fall of 2009. The University of Central Arkansas, a comprehensive university with doctoral programs, has a student population of 13,000. Located in Conway, a prosperous city of 60,000 containing two other colleges, the campus is an easy drive from both Little Rock and pristine wild areas such as the Buffalo River and Ozark Mountains.
